I’ll admit it: I tend to make up my mind quickly. After all, the saying “never judge a book by its cover” doesn’t really apply to graphic designers. So, when I decided I’d be one, I meant it—even if I was only 14.
But my professional path became slightly more complex at 18, when I joined a small hotel to serve breakfast on Friday and Saturday mornings. On the surface, I scrambled eggs, brewed coffee, washed dishes, and mopped floors. But together, these small tasks created an experience—the most important experience of the day, some would argue. Before I knew it, I was hooked.
Between 2018 and 2023, while studying graphic design at Austin Community College and The University of Texas at Austin, I remained immersed in hospitality. Sometimes, I do miss it. Those years taught me the importance of strategic, empathy-driven guest service and the power of carefully curated experiences. Though I’m no longer in guest service, my “hotel brain” continues to influence my work. Just as I once shaped the breakfast experience, my goal now is to create visual experiences that help people escape the hustle and bustle and the plain and mundane of everyday life, all while upholding that empathy-focused approach.
Needless to say, I am especially drawn to projects in the hospitality sector, with a particular fondness for food and beverage opportunities, but I’d also love to work on TV shows, movies, and video games—outlets that give us all a brief escape, whether on vacation, a lunch break, or cozied up at home.
